2018 Fundraising

-Andrew's triple challenge-

My dad Andrew is undertaking 3 massive challenges to raise money for the Autonomic Charitable Trust. These challenges are:

1. On Saturday 9 June he began walking the Thames footpath with his friend Mark- from the Greenwich barrier ending in a field in Gloucestershire 6.5 days and 184 miles later. They found the source of the river! Diversions made the total closer to 200 miles. It was very hard work! Unfortunately a few days before the end, he developed shin splints and was in horrific pain. He persevered despite the severity of his injury and completed the challenge. However, his shin was badly damaged and has not completely healed even to this date. Due to this challenge 2 (described below) is postponed until it has recovered properly after his Pennine Way challenge.

2. On 6th July 2019, Andrew and his brother Kim walked two cross country circuits for as long and as far as they could. They started at 8am on the 6th, walked all day and throughout the night until 9am the ext morning. They covered an impressive 68.1 miles and far surpassed their estimate of 60.  Congratulations to both of them!

3. On 2 October Andrew and his friend Steve finished the mammoth 286.7 miles and 34,000 feet of climbing of the Pennine Way. This is incredible given Andrew had no time to prepare due to a shin injury which also caused serious pain particularly in the last week of the walk. The first few days were pretty rough, the weather was wet and miserable and his waterproofs turned out to not be so waterproof. They both walked through hurricane winds and even got lost a few times adding extra miles onto their journey!

So, 3 challenges but just one sponsored event. ALL proceeds got to the Autonomic Charitable Trust.

If you feel like donating to a worthy charity for all his hard work then you can donate via his my donate page here.

Pots Fighting Forces is a fundraising group run by a few friends to raise money predominantly for the Autonomic Charitable Trust (ACT) and Help for Heroes. Each year we run a charity day in Paddock Wood, Kent, and this year's event is on Saturday, 30 June at the Memorial Ground, Paddock Wood, TN12 6EB.

There is a modest £2 entry charge which gets you a programme and the chance to watch a football match between Charlton Athletic Veterans and Les Apps Maidstone Veterans. Last year, Charlton included Kevin Lisbie in their side; Kevin scored a hat trick for Charlton against Liverpool not so many years ago. The game should be of high quality.

We have bouncy fun for the children, Disney and Frozen characters, face painting and a 'barrow of sweets' raffle also aimed at the youngsters. There is live music, a BBQ and bar with real ale and a 'barrow of beer' raffle for the adults. A cake/tea tent for a quiet rest, stalls to spend a few pounds and a football skills circuit for all ages to test themselves against the clock. Have a go at archery or kids try the tug-of-war against the Disney/Frozen characters. A raffle with many prizes will be drawn on the day.

All this and you are raising money for worthwhile charities-especially the ACT which is a growing charity  and currently about to issue a second grant to a medical team to carry out research into neurological conditions which may benefit PoTS, Parkinsons and some type of Diabetes.

FUNDRAISING 2017

Choir Raises Funds for the ACT

Breathless was set up in January 2016 after a lady, Marion Sorfleet, was diagnosed with the lung condition, COPD. She was determined that the illness would not get the better of her and did some research along with Nurse Lorraine Stapley of Woodlands Medical Practice, Paddock Wood and found that singing could help. So, the two of them along with the help of chairman, Sarah Hamilton set about recruiting members. Initially starting with 6 members the group have now grown to 20 on average. Fun sessions are held every week in the Masonic Hall in Paddock Wood on a Friday lunchtime and new members are very welcome.

On Friday evening 28 July, Breathless held only its second concert; this being at the Schools at Somerhill in Tonbridge. About 15 members of the choir were there. They sang an eclectic range of music ranging from Oliver's Consider Yourself to A Maori lullaby Hine e Hine. The evening was a great success with about 70 people in the audience. Monies raised were from donations for strawberries and cream, Pimms and a retiring collection all for a very worthwhile cause. We hope that ACT can make use of the £300 raised on the evening.

-POTS Fighting forces fundraiser-

Our charity day was held on 24 June 2017 and despite significant rainfall as we opened our event it was very successful. It is estimated that together with an earlier fundraiser we will have raised £5,000 which went to our two charities (one of which is the Autonomic Charitable Trust) and a guest charity.

The day consisted of a football match between Charlton and Maidstone Veterans. Football fans were pleased to see Kevin Lisbie turn out for Charlton. Kevin scored a hat trick against Liverpool for Charlton in 2003 and unsurprisingly scored in our game to help Charlton to a 3-1 win.

In addition, there was a bouncy castle, bouncy boxing (very tiring and a lot harder than you think!). A bar, BBQ and cake tent helped with refreshments. Band Mullac-a-Boo kept us entertained. Charlton also provide some small  sided football for youngsters and classic cars were on show for the more mature visitor. A tug of war for the children against the Disney characters and raffles meant there was plenty to do, with a number of stalls rounding things off.

Thanks to all those who gave up their time and to those who attended. A great deal of time went into preparations but the ACT needs funds to  raise awareness of conditions such as PoTS and provide grants for research.

FUNDRAISING 2016

- Firefly Fundraising -

On 21 October 2016 Firefly Properties held a golf day at Dale Hill Golf Club in aid of PoTS. The day was a tremendous success with about 80 golfers enjoying a round on a demanding course followed by a meal, auction and raffle. As a result of a tremendous effort by Chris and Carol Prier of Firefly and their daughters Kelly and Hannah approximately £5,500 was raised. A magnificent sum to be added to £3,000 last year and all donated to the Autonomic Charitable Trust which is carrying out and funding research into PoTS.

Thanks from all UK Potsies.
